Religious clock in red tortoiseshell and brass fillet, Louis XIV period.
The entire decoration is in two-part marquetry, in the Boulle style; brass on a red tortoiseshell background. The decoration and cutouts are extremely fine.
The architectural façade is framed by two pilasters topped with gilt bronze Corinthian capitals. The lateral sides are openwork and provide a glimpse of the clock's movements, behind a glass pane.
The raised dial features gilt bronze decoration with an enameled cartouche punctuated by Roman numerals. There are three-lobed and four-lobed steel hands, and a tortoiseshell-plated case lined with brass. The molded cornice is supported by two fluted brass lateral pilasters with Corinthian capitals. The clock rests on four ball feet carved with acanthus leaves. The hat rests on a row of bronze columns, topped with eight fire pots.

Signed Martinot in the Galeries du Louvre.
Quarter-chime, three gear bodies. Cross-wheel escapement with its period cycloid.
The Martinots were renowned clockmakers in the 17th century.
