Fireplace set in gilded metal and onyx, signed Henryk II Kossowski (1855-1921) and titled “La Nuit”.
This Polish sculptor from France is known to have been a student of Mathurin Moreau (1822-1912).
This decoration is composed of a pair of gilded metal candelabras with five scrolled sconces and a central one supporting finely chiseled bobeches and chalices.
The pot-bellied barrels feature sculptures of children and floral motifs.
Each of the green onyx bases, decorated with a medallion, rests on four gilded bronze feet with acanthus leaves.
This set would not be complete without its important pendulum, also in green onyx resting on the same type of feet, equipped with a circular white enameled dial, surrounded by a plant composition in gilded bronze.
This clock is topped by a work by Kossowski entitled “Night.”
It represents a draped woman, slightly naked, dancing under the immensity of the starry sky.
This fireplace surround will please with the contrasting tones of its gold metal and onyx.
