Clock with winding mechanism in regula, with a golden patina, by the French sculptor Xavier Raphanel (1876-1957). Knight of the Legion of Honor, he is known for his chryselephantine works, a technique he mastered to perfection.
The work "Roman Race" represents the queen event of the circus games during antiquity. It presents a chariot, decorated with scrolls, pulled by two rearing horses. These horses are led by an charioteer dressed in a toga floating in the air.
The clock forms one of the wheels of the chariot. Its dial is white enamelled and decorated with garlands of flowers. The hours and quarter hours are graduated in Arabic numerals.
The set rests on a pink marble base of Valence.
This important clock will please among others for its charisma and the finesse of the artist's work.
