    Large clock in the Egyptomanie style, in marble of different colors, decorated with stylized hieroglyphs, falcons and scarabs.
    It is surmounted by a sphynx in patinated bronze.

    Egyptomania was a fashionable 19th-century artistic movement born of European fascination with Pharaonic Egyptian culture.
    Although already popular in Roman times, the art of the Pharaohs was rediscovered with Bonaparte's Egyptian campaign and the early travels of artists and collectors.
    The architectural elements and decor of the rediscovered temples found their way into European interiors in the form of both objects and furniture; the discovery of the Tomb of Tutankhamun and all its furnishings was a new source of inspiration for designers, a craze for Egyptian civilization that continues to this day.
