“Verdure” tapestry, 18th century Flemish workshop

- This “Greenery” is a real invitation to contemplation; a window open onto a green landscape, a privileged place and moment of tranquility. This oasis of greenery, like a silent retreat that no human noise seems likely to disturb, brings together in a small space several elements considered to be a symbol of rural happiness; abundant vegetation, a perched bird
of which we imagine hearing the song, an elegant garden, the sound of water. The shaded paths, the calm water of the vast sheets which reflect the light and the fountains with cascading water add to the charm of this garden and reinforce the peaceful and enchanting character of this landscape.

- The eye is caught by the vanishing point designed via the body of water which seems to continue as far as the eye can see. The plants and architectural elements are transcribed with great precision, thus offering numerous details, the eye is delighted. We can cite in particular the delicate flowers in the foreground or the detail of the fountain mouths.
If the foreground is that of nature not domesticated by Man, the following recall the human presence (the garden, the architectural elements raised on the hill). This seems to evoke a form of original harmony between Man and nature.
- The drawing is careful with a search for depth thanks to the succession of different planes. The perception of the volume of the foliage has been finely transcribed by light green tones juxtaposed with darker ones as well as by bursts of light introduced by touch, thanks in particular to the use of golden yellow silk, at the ends of the leaves.

- The materials used, the quality and finesse of execution link this weaving to the 18th century Greenery produced in Flemish workshops (Oudenarde, Brussels, etc.).

- Lined tapestry, fixing system with rings. Dimensions: Height: 217cm Width: 143cm

- Good state of conservation, some wear should be noted in the central part (see photos).
