Rare large Aubusson tapestry depicting a group of figures dancing in a verdant landscape, with a château in the background, richly decorated border with foliage, scallops, trumpets and dolphins, upper corners adorned with a coat of arms topped with a comtal crown and lower corners with a medallion containing a Sacré-Coeur, 17th century.
This tapestry is in good condition and of exceptional quality. Its large dimensions make it highly decorative.
Its iconography can be compared with the famous engraving "Le Branle" by Claudine Bouzonnet Stella (1638-1697), preserved in the Bibliothèque municipale de Lyon (Pastorales series) and which inspired many tapestries of the period.
The attributes of the border suggest a man of Justice or Law, a magistrate or a member of Parliament. The coat of arms at top left ("azure, demi-vol dextre d'argent posé en bande") may suggest the Blanc de Luveaune family, which produced several councillors to the Parlement de Provence in Aix.
Please note: some wear on the tapestry, please look at the photos.
