"Kalaga" tapestry Measures long 148 x high 90 cm
very special made in Burma with black velvet and embossed with metallic filaments, sequins and semi-precious stones. The name "Kalaga" means "foreign tent". Some of these ornamental curtains can reach 5 meters in length, others have been adapted to make cushions, paintings and shoulder bags. The glittering figures on the kalagas depict scenes and characters from ancient Sanskrit legends, the 10 lives of Buddha and the mythological vicissitudes of the Ramayana. These artifacts typically come from the hill tribes of northern Thailand and Burma and require up to six months of skilled craftsmanship.
