Very beautiful cross embroidered with polychrome silk and gold thread.
Originally it was certainly to decorate a chasuble.
Decorated with 2 medallions, we distinguish in the first, the virgin and the child Jesus blessing.
In the second medallion the rare representation of Leo XIII, Saint Theresa at the feet of the pope in 1887, imploring him to authorize her to enter Carmel at the age of 15 years.
This embroidered medallion was made from a late watercolor made from a charcoal drawing by Celine.
One can see the name Léon embroidered in the embroidery.
We can assume that the cross dates from the early twentieth century, around 1920, the embroidery around the medallions and especially that of the roses is quite representative of the art deco period.
The whole is in very good condition.
The cross measures 1 meter by 61 cm wide.
