Four lights raised on volutes made of delicate scrolls of chiseled acanthus leaves form the central shaft crowned with a fifth light. Chiseled leaf-shaped scrolls and binnacles resting on large gadrooned cushions further enrich the vocabulary of this large chandelier. Like a bouquet, volutes and lights escape from a vase carried with ease by an oriental caryatid, all in veils and precious fabrics and richly adorned with jewelry. The stepped foot is still soft in its supple forms and one notices the mascarons decorating the feet. Work in solid silver and in perfect condition of the most perfect eclectic style, this candlestick handles both the codes of the second half of the nineteenth century as well as that of Orientalism. A solid silver hallmark attests to the quality of the metal.
