Rare solid silver Fermiers Généraux ear-covered bowl: Rennes community mark (1756-1762), discharge marks and PJB goldsmith's mark for Pierre-Julien Buchet*; an artichoke on a leafy terrace at the top of the lid, shell-shaped ears decorated with a satyr mascaron, lid with doucine chased with a medallion, 18th century.
This bowl is in good condition and of exceptional quality. Numerous discharge marks in several places on bowl and lid (see photos).
* Goldsmith's hallmark PJB with crowned ermine for Pierre-Julien Buchet, received master in 1759, from a great family of goldsmiths in Rennes.
Few Breton covered shields have survived, and this one is all the more exceptional for the quality of its chasing.
