Lined metal condiment service with rich ornamentation of foliage scrolls.
This piece is the work of Jacques-Augustin GANDAIS who became goldsmith-plater to King Louis-Philippe I in 1834, he founded his goldsmith factory in Paris in 1819. Specializing in the production of silver-lined metal objects, a technique from England (before electrolysis).
He brought this technique to such a high degree of excellence that he became its ambassador and his reputation spread to the courts of Europe to whom he provided exceptional pieces.
To make the objects more resistant to the wear and tear of time, he covered the copper of the protruding parts of his models with strips of pure silver. The feet and the attached ornaments were made of solid silver.
Our part is in good condition (traces of old welding repairs).
Around 1830.
