Beautiful set of four "bistro" chairs by Jacob & Josef Kohn. These Viennese chairs are number 67 in the catalog of this Austrian company founded in 1848.
They feature a solid bent-beech frame and thermoformed seat and back. This embossed wood forms relief patterns reminiscent of the Henri II style.
The excellent granite-look seat is belted and squared at the front and bolted at the back. The backrests are openwork, curved and turned backwards.
Each chair is stamped J&J Kohn below the belt. Some still bear the stamp "Jacob & Josef Kohn, Wien" under the seat.
J. & J. Kohn:
Jacob & Josef Kohn was Thonet's leading competitor in early 1900.
The firm hired avant-garde Viennese architects Josef Hoffmann, Sieget and Moser to create attractive modern furniture for a wealthy clientele.
