Pair of Empire mahogany chairs, simple Jacob model with lyre back, baluster front legs and saber rear legs. Mahogany and mahogany veneer, they are covered with Empire crushed velvet in Bordeaux color (Marie Louis model by Tassinari and Chatel). Under the belt, a chair has kept a trace of the paper label of provenance. End of the Empire period, 1810s.
Our chairs are typical of the productions of Maison Jacob Desmalter for Impérial furniture. This company benefited from the protection of the Emperor, and it was the company which supplied a good part of the very important furniture ordered for the imperial and then royal residences under the Restoration.
Although not stamped, there is no doubt of Jacob Desmalter production. The model is known and adorned with variations the dining rooms of many Imperial palaces (like Monte Cavallo in Rome in the last photo) or even Princely or Royal ones (variants of the 2 models of chairs from the Chateau de Bizy that we sold there a few months ago https://www.gslr-antiques.com/fr/boutique/sieges/paire-chaises-jacob-lp-chateau-bizy.php or https://www.gslr-antiques.com/fr /shop/seats/chair-jacob-lp-chateau-bizy.php)
For these collectible Empire chairs, we have implemented a national furniture quality restoration: each seat stripped, reassembled, varnished with a pad, knife blade horsehair trim, crushed velvet cover and enhanced with old gold thread braid. .
