Beautiful salon chair with Queen back in molded wood, finely carved with staples, shells, pomegranates and flowers. Upholstered in very fine emerald-green silk in the Louis XV style (Tassinari et Chatel). Parisian work of the Louis XV period, second half of the 18th century circa 1760, stamped under the belt by Etienne Meunier.
Etienne Meunier was the first and certainly the most renowned of a dynasty of Parisian joiners. His life is little-known. In the mid-18th century, he worked on rue de Cléry for such fashionable merchants as Pierre Migeon and Étienne Igou. All Louis XV chairs bearing his stamp are of the highest quality. He produced bergères, light and elegant armchairs in a variety of shapes, chairs with sober, well thought-out lines, and a large number of daybeds, but the office chair appears to be his great specialty. The carvings on his chairs are of great finesse. His workshop, still mentioned in 1770, may have been kept by a widow until the end of Louis XV's reign.
A very fine, elegant model, with no fault in the proportions or carvings.
In excellent condition, our seats are covered from new with this beautiful green silk, of which we have acquired a large yardage, enabling us to offer several matching Louis XV seats to form an important ensemble.
