Maîtrise Obtained April 27, 1768: Most of his work is in the Louis XVI style.Claude Chevigny was established, until the Revolution, on rue de Cléry, where he produced very fine quality, highly polished, simple but delicately sculpted seats. Most of his work is in the Louis XVI style, with medallion, square or basket-handle backs, rigorous lines and tapered legs with curved flutes.Chevigny carried out numerous commissions: for the Duc de Choiseul at the Château de Chanteloup - for whom he notably delivered a salon set comprising gilded wood seats carved with interlacing and acanthus leaves, a sofa, two bergères and basket-handle-back armchairs - and also for the Duc de Montmorency (18th-century furniture and cabinetmaker).
