Beautiful set of 4 Directoire period chairs in lacquered wood, Etruscan model, very elegant with its upturned back, highlighted with a lambrequin frieze, carved decorations in low relief of a gadrooned rosette inscribed in a diamond, the feet, front spindle-shaped and rear feet sabre-shaped. Small gadrooned rosette as a reminder of the backrest on the front connection dice.
Parisian work with very careful manufacturing dating from the end of the 18th century, beginning of the 19th century attributed to Henri Jacob (1753-1824), Parisian carpenter, received master on September 29, 1779, German cushion by Georges Jacob from whom we find seat models very similar, he became a supplier to the court and delivered Louis XVI seats in gilded wood, his most important production was concentrated on the Directory and the Consulate, we also have for sale 4 mahogany Director armchairs stamped by the master. We find very similar models with variations in particular in terms of the bases as presented in Ledoux-Lebard, other great Parisian carpenters such as Demay and Jacob Frères present quite similar works with also some variations.
Good overall condition, usual restoration, upholstery in good condition, the 4 chairs are covered in royal blue velvet in very good condition.
