Large mahogany and mahogany veneered Sofa or Paumier from the French Empire period circa 1810

An interesting French Empire period production, with this elegant, wide mahogany and mahogany veneered sofa or Paumier.

Our sofa or Paumier has been reupholstered in a beautiful yellow fabric in the taste of the period.

    Sizes sofa: H 38.58 In - W 61.81 In - D 28.34 In - Seat high 20.07 In.

    In fine condition. New upholstery.

The Paumier is a three-backed sofa mentioned in the periodical "Magasin des modes nouvelles françaises et anglaises".

April 30, 1787, is reproduced and captioned: sofa à trois dossiers, called Sofa en Paumier. This piece of furniture is put in winter in a bedroom near the fire to read or rest. The seat is in the latest taste.

In his memoirs, Jacob-Desmalter calls it a Head-to-Head or Sleeper.
