Rare suite of six Regency-style "à la reine" armchairs with rich gilded wood carving from the Napoleon III period, upholstered in damask velvet by Tassinari et Chatel circa 1855.
Michel Victor Gruchet was an expert in the styles of the past, having supplied the Garde-Meuble of Louis-Philippe and the Duc d'Aumale at the Château de Chantilly, and decorated the audience room of the Duc de Nemours at the Pavillon de Marsan. In 1856, he decorated Emperor Napoleon III's petit salon in the Orangerie at Château Saint-Cloud. He was called to Épernay to decorate the interiors of the Château de Perrier. Present in the collections of the Musée du Louvre and rare on the market.
