Very handsome and elegant cane-bottomed armchair, with flat, strongly shouldered back, in molded and richly carved beech, decorated with asymmetrical rocaille, foliage, acanthus leaves, reticulated motifs, trefoils, water leaves, shells, lambrequins, scrolls, etc., the sinuous-shaped armrests and brackets resting on four curved legs, finished with scrolls (small accidents and pitting on the rear crosspiece of the belt).
Regency period, circa 1725.
Good condition (with a worn tan leather cover).
An armchair with the same kind of trefoil cartel, emphasizing the strong shoulder of the backrest, is now on display in the galleries of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. Our armchair can be compared with the works of Jean-Baptiste I Tilliard, received as a master in Paris in 1717.
