XVIIIth Century
Superb pair of Louis XVI period molded and carved walnut armchairs resting on four fluted and ribbed sheath legs.
These armchairs are richly molded and carved with friezes, rosettes and garlands. Their rounded backrests are adorned with friezes and columns. They are upholstered in a pretty Fabric in Green Tones.
Good seating. Good stability.
Very Fine Quality Furniture Attributed to the Master Cabinet Maker, Pierre - Nicolas PILLOT (1748 - 1822).
Pierre Pillot (1748 - 1822), Master in Nîmes towards the end of the reign of Louis XVI. Pierre Pillot designed a large number of pieces, mainly chairs in a characteristic Louis XV and Louis XVI style, where the dual influence of Lyonnais taste and Italian art can be recognized. According to his advertising card, fragments of which were found on a console belonging to Mr. H. Maroger, this manufacturer, established "près le Marché, n 106", sold both cabinetmaking and joinery furniture, such as chests of drawers, Greek-style tables, Turkish-style beds, sofas, medallion armchairs and so on. In general, Pillot's chairs feature heavier ornamentation, with rectangular meanders, acanthus motifs and laurel tori. Many are upholstered in canework.
