Elegant armchair in relacquered beech. it rests on four tapered, fluted and grooved legs, with a ring at the top. moulded belt, belted front crosspiece. Finely molded armrests. The vertical "baguette" at the base of the armrest support is reminiscent of the seat carpenter Antoine Gailliard, who used this motif on a recurring basis.
Antoine Gailliard
Awarded his master's degree in 1781, he supplied the Garde-Meuble royal before the Revolution, and later the Imperial Administration. He retained the use of his stamp after the abolition of the guilds, and produced a few works of cabinetmaking.
Condition report: seat restored. Spring-loaded seat from above, transom back. Upholstered in a cotton-silk blend fabric (resistant) by Lelièvre, entitled "Marivaux". Lacquered with animal glue, as in the period.
