Imperial armchair from the Empire period in mahogany and mahogany veneer, the openwork grid back with a handle, the upholstered seat. It rests on baluster front legs and sabre-shaped rear legs. Inside the belt, we find two inventory numbers, the first crossed out which seems to indicate a provenance from the Tuileries, and then that of the Palais de Saint Cloud (St C, and the G which we have not yet identified at this stage of our research). Under the belt, the stamp of Jean Pierre Louis. Empire period, 1810s.

Jean Pierre Louis, a carpenter who became a master in 1787, was a supplier to the imperial administration and then worked for the Duke of Bourbon, the Duke of Richelieu in collaboration with Jacob Desmalter (cf. 19th century French furniture by D. Ledoux-Lebard, Paris 1989, p. 446). Under the Empire, it provided the Imperial Administration with numerous seats for the grand officers of the Crown, which we found in the palaces of Fontainebleau, the Tuileries or Saint Cloud, like ours.

For this historic armchair, we had a National Furniture quality restoration carried out: buffer varnish, “knife blade” horsehair trim, which we covered with old Empire silk, raspberry red with a yellow placed pattern, enhanced with double gold thread braiding.

Very beautiful collector's item in perfect condition. The old fabric is new, it has never been installed before today. It is clean with a few small fly stains. The colors are vibrant. Please note, old silk is more fragile and only allows occasional use to extend its lifespan as much as possible.
