Pair of armchairs in grey-blue relacquered wood with bronze patina, Retour d'Egypte model with antique-style busts of women wearing oriental turbans, scrolled backs, clawed front legs and Etruscan-style, saber-curved back legs. Consulate period, late 18th century or 1800.
Beautifully proportioned, with fine, responsive carving and perfect finish. Our armchairs have horsehair upholstery on straps; they have been covered in duck-blue velvet (Maison Lelièvre), which has been "struck" or "embossed" by Maison Bonvallet (Laetitia motif placed on the back and seat); we have had it enhanced with antique gilded, studded braid. Stamped velvet is an elegant, luxurious finish that is much more durable than silk.
A fine historical collector's item, our chairs are interesting for their elegant lines and beautiful "national furniture" restoration.
Ideal for completing an Empire décor in a living room, hallway or bedroom.
We have sold a pair of Jacob's chairs from the Tuileries with the same finish https://www.gslr-antiques.com/fr/boutique/sieges/paire-chaises-consulat-tuileries-jacob-freres-velours-bleu.php and also offer a beautiful matching bergère: https://www.gslr-antiques.com/fr/boutique/sieges/bergere-directoire-laquee-lelievre-bonvallet.php
Our chairs are in excellent condition, with no accidents or missing pieces.
