Jacob Desmalter et Cie is the association of father Jacob and son François-Honoré, who had added the name "Desmalter" to his surname. This partnership was formed on the death of George II Jacob. Since then, his works have been inscribed with the same two-line inscription. Georges Jacob's traditions were carried on by his sons Georges and François-Honoré, who joined forces under the name "Jacob Frères". On the death of the eldest Jacob brother on 30 Vendémiaire An XII (October 23 1803), François-Honoré formed a new partnership with his father, under the name "Jacob Desmalter et Cie". There were no less than fifteen workshops, including seven for joinery, cabinetmaking and turning, three for wood carving, painting and gilding, three for bronze work, one for upholstery and one for mechanical locksmithing. Father was always active and wise, keeping an eye on everything. Much was made, much was "rich", but what had become of the exquisite "Jacob" lines of the 18th century? The fact remains that it was at this time that Jacob, working with the painter David, created the Empire style, imitating the antique and seeking its sumptuous, majestic and hard lines in the art of Imperial Rome.
Furniture of the highest quality and elegance.
Empire period, circa 1800.
