Beautiful salon armchair with Queen's back in molded wood, finely carved with staples, shells and flowers. Upholstered in very fine emerald-green silk in the Louis XV style (Tassinari et Chatel). Parisian work of the Louis XV period, second half of the 18th century circa 1760, stamped Henri Amand and JME on the back of the waistband.
Henri Amand, carpenter, master on November 17, 1749. He made mainly Louis XV-style chairs. After setting up shop on rue de Lappe, he moved his workshop to rue de Charenton, where his widow remained from 1757 to 1768. This cabinetmaker's workmanship is characterized by beautifully proportioned, well-crafted Louis XV chairs, caned office armchairs, "fauteuils à la reine" scupted with cartouches and florettes, and elegant sofas adorned with rocaille motifs. Very often, he joined the legs of his chairs with a cross-brace. Henri Amand's stamp is usually affixed to one of the uprights behind the seat.
A very fine, elegant model, with no fault of taste in the proportions or carvings. In excellent condition, our armchair is upholstered as new in this beautiful green silk, of which we have acquired a large yardage, enabling us to offer several matching Louis XV seats to form an important ensemble.
