Iconic Flag Halyard armchair by Hans Wegner (1914-2007), edition by Getama, 1950.
This model is known as the Model 225 or the Flag Halyard Chair and presents its originality by its materials, the creations of Wegner being usually made of wood. The legend says that Wegner would have received the challenge to create a metal armchair and the Flag Halyard Chair would be the answer to this one. It is also said that the idea for the design came to him on a beach in Arhus (Denmark): the shape of the chair is modeled on the shape of a seat dug into the sand of the beach to be perfectly adapted to the human body. . The name Flag Halyard comes from the type of rope used for the chair, which is extremely strong and durable.
The chair is made of white lacquered stainless steel, rope, cushion and (modern) sheepskin. This is one of the first editions from 1950 from the original manufacturer Getama. It bears the typical signs of a Getama edition: wooden shoe chair, numbered 384 on the steel structure. It was handcrafted with 240 meters of rope and few were produced as part of the first edition.
The chair is in good condition, old repairs have been made on the ropes: two are visible, four are below the seat.
