Large queen's armchair used as an office chair, beautiful finely carved ceremonial model, it is upholstered with a fine Beauvais tapestry in wool and silk from the Napoleon III period. Stamp of Claude Séné below and inventory numbers from the 18th century, unidentified. Louis XVI period, around 1780.
Claude II Sené known as the Younger - Cabinetmaker. Paris. Master on July 31, 1769. Younger son of Claude I and brother of the famous Jean-Baptiste Claude, he worked on rue du Faubourg Saint-Denis but had to file for bankruptcy in 1783.
Beautiful collectible model, with rich decoration and elegant lines. The inventory marks that we have not been able to identify are an enigma about their prestigious provenance which remains to be discovered. It is also interesting to note the use of a tightening of the rear legs, with rounded side rails, a very elegant movement, creation of Georges Jacob, which was taken up and followed by the greatest carpenters in Parisian seats, such as the Senna dynasty.
NB: we have a second armchair of comparable quality and similar model which can be used to form a set.
The 2 seats were fitted with fine Beauvais tapestry and re-lacquered under Napoleon III. They are typical of this style known as "Louis XVI à l'Impératrice", brought back into fashion by Empress Eugénie who had a great passion for Marie Antoinette and refined furniture from the Louis XVI period.
Very good condition, healthy and free joinery with usual restorations. We had the beautiful tapestries dismantled, entrusted them to our restorers for a dry cleaning which reveals the freshness of the colors, then doubled to strengthen them and put them back on the seats. The whole is now robust and durably protected and revived.
