Our Saint woman is a Martyr from the IIIᵉ century. She is the patron saint of firefighters.
Saint Barbara takes her name from the Christians who, in order to recover her body, prudently refused to call her by her baptismal name, identifying her to her torturers as "the barbarian woman".
Here, she holds a chalice in her left hand. Religious iconography usually attributes a ciborium to her.
Delicately carved, gilded and polychromed, Saint Barbara is mounted on a tripod pedestal with a cartouche naming her in the center.
Very good condition - Southern Germany - mid 18th century.
Dimensions: 47 cm high by 27 wide and 12 cm deep.
