Beauty and its fragility, as a path to spirituality...
Our altar top is made up of two angels and a gallery. The praying people sculpted in the round face each other on either side of the Altar. Kneeling and absorbed in prayer, they are carried by Grace, here represented by the Cloud, which traditionally manifests the presence of the Most High.
The gallery, an assembly of three distinct elements, is richly crafted and crowned by a crown. The crown simultaneously evokes the Messiah-King and the Holy Crown of Thorns.
These elements, as well as the angels, are in molded, carved and gilded wood.
The angels measure 57 cm high by 40 cm long and the accompanying gallery 66 cm by 60 cm wide.
Note accidents, wormholes and losses.
A 17th century composition which remains touching, despite or perhaps thanks... to the ravages of time.
