Michel Bonnand's sculptures - sensitive curves

Michel Bonnand's hand follows the nervous movement of an arm, the curve of a back, rectifies a delicate dimple. In the silence of the studio, bathed in afternoon light, he draws confessions from a walnut tree, from an olive tree he borrows contortions, while lime or boxwood whisper other inspired compositions. And the murmur of hamadryads faithfully accompanies him.
To their whispers, their speeches, sometimes their complaints, the sculptor responds: the dry, matt sound of the mallet on the chisel, the tenuous crumpling of shavings falling to the ground. Then there are the smells of wood and varnish, the warmth of sanded wood. And then there's the masterly yet demanding stone, which the artist sometimes likes to caress and sculpt.
When these noises fade, silence envelops a whole people of wood escaped from the artist's imagination and sensibility: dreamy women, trusting children, gentle embraces, pillars of Life... All these beings sketching mischievous smiles, questioning glances, and like slow gestures...

    Michel Bonnand's sculptures
Carving wood, close to the work to be born, that is the way the sculptor discovers the spirit of matter.
Enough for him to merge with this matter, to let himself guide intuitively, and the work outside shows the idea inside.
When this matter is wood, living material "parexcellence", when one can breathe its odor and listen to its complaint, no doubt that one can hear the Muses who are living there. The vocation of MichelBonnand was born rom the seduction of these hamadryades!
