    Large polychrome carved wooden statue representing Saint Florian* in Roman soldier's armor with his plumed helmet, from the 17th century.
    This statue is in good general condition and is of exceptional quality. The polychromy is still very bright. The feathers of the helmet can be removed (see last photo).
    Please note: some accidents and lack of polychromy in places, what he is holding in his hands is missing (probably a sword / spear / flag; perhaps even a bucket), old worm holes, some accidents on the wood, wear and tear, look carefully at the photos.
    * Florian of Lorch
    or Florian of Lorsch (Florianus in Latin) (around 250 - around 304) is an officer of the Roman army, military administrator of a city in the Roman province of Noricum. He was a Christian, but kept his faith hidden. He is said to have saved a village from a fire by praying and symbolically being thrown a bucket of water to put it out; this is why he is associated with firefighters and all those who protect from fire, including chimney sweeps. When during the persecutions of Diocletian, charged with executing a group of Christians, he refused, he was drowned in the Enns River with a stone around his neck. He is celebrated on May 4 as a saint and martyr by Catholics and Orthodox. He is the protector of Austria where his cult has remained very much alive. He is the patron saint of firefighters, potters, blacksmiths, chimney sweeps, brewers, coopers, masons, miners, he is called as a protector against drought, fires, floods and bad harvests. Its attributes can be: armor, house, pot, millstone, banner, crown, cross, sword, eagle, fire, flame, fire, spear, flag, river, bucket, water.
