Large Christ in polychrome carved wood, late 17th century.
- Large polychrome wooden sculpture depicting Christ agonizing on the cross (no longer extant), dressed in a single perizonium, eyes still open, mouth ajar. In an attitude of resignation and abandonment, his head is bowed on his right shoulder. He appears to be depicted as if in his last breath.
- The qualities of this sculpture lie in the strength of expression of the face; the open mouth and eyes give this figure a realistic expression, the face imbued at once with sadness, quietude and humanity. And also in the very delicate treatment of the sculpture, notably in the undulations of the hair and beard, the flowing drapery of the perizonium, and the musculature that emerges on Christ's body, allowing subtle plays of light.
-Baroque work from the late 17th century. Sculpture presented on a wooden base.
- Visible missing parts (arms and feet), cracks on Christ's back.
-Dimensions: Height of Christ: 93 cm Width: 20 cm Depth: 18 cm
Height with base: 102cm
