Elegant 17th-century corner saddle

This corner saddle is deeply carved with an elegant "fouillis" of vines and volutes on which a dragon rests. Despite the apparent disorder, the overall design is well-balanced, with opposing volutes and, above all, a dragon whose neck is at the center of a broken pediment created by its two outstretched wings.
Moreover, the shape of its use (saddle) is hardly noticeable in the eye, almost a sculpture in its own right.
This type of decoration is rarely found on a secular object.
This saddle carried a statue of weight, the strong piton is designed to weigh more than the saddle.

Condition:
Very good condition for this type of object , age chips without fragility .
Beautiful patina of the wood.
