China, end of the Ming period, beginning of the Qing period, 17th century, superb, rare and very old statue in lacquered and gilded wood representing Kouan Yin, Buddhist goddess of mercy. She is dressed in formal attire, seated on a throne, holding a child on her left knee. This statue is reminiscent of certain statues of the Virgin Mary dating from the Haute-Époque.
Height 33.5cm.
Good state of conservation except normal wear compared to the seniority and some old attacks of xylophages, today neutralized. The scale witness in the last photograph is a small model of a lighter from a well-known brand.
