The monk Sariputta (Sariputra), in wood carved in the mass: (except for the two feet) The rear drape was carved in one piece (see photo).
Beautiful state of conservation, the patina is asserted through the vestiges of saffron, chalk and orange-red polychromy which mingle with the stucco persisting on the wood.
The posture and expression of the eyes are well reinforced by the correct inclination of the face, slightly raised.
Burma (Myanmar), late Konbaung period, circa 1880.
Although this iconography is a great classic of Burmese art, old pieces of this type and quality are now rare.
