20th century terracotta representing the bust of an Asian figure. Sculpture after the work of Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux(1827-1875). The model for this bust corresponds to the preparatory study of the figure of Asia made by Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux in 1868, when the city of Paris commissioned the architect Gabriel Davioud to design a fountain for the Avenue de L'Observatoire. For this project, the sculptor designed a group of four figures supporting a hollowed-out globe embodying The Four Parts of the World supporting the celestial sphere.
Traces of polychromy. Good overall condition, with a few missing pieces on the back (see photos).
