Height: 48 cms
Diameter: 23.5 cms
This work was presented for the first time at the Salon of 1786 by Louis-Simon Boizot. It is a variation on the sculpture by Girardon, executed from 1678 for the Bosquet des Sources des Jardins du Château de Versailles. Boizot was inspired throughout his career by the art of Versailles, both for bronzes and for biscuits and more monumental works. This work has for counterpart "The Abduction of Orythia", made after the work of Marsy. The biscuit attributed to Boizot was made in the molding-repairing workshop in Sèvres, which has been responsible since the 18th century for making the Biscuit de Sèvres and whose molds Samson bought in the 19th century.
