Philippe Poitevin is a sculptor from the Marseille region, born in 1831. A student of Joseph Marius Ramus and Armand Toussaint, he began at the Salon of 1855. He is particularly known for having created busts. He regularly receives public orders: groups of children for the Palais Longchamp in Marseille, bronze medallions for the Natural History Museum, groups for the Museum of Fine Arts in Marseille. In 1854, he was hired to restore friezes at the Palais des Tuileries in Paris. In 1856, he was hired to create 85 stone sculptures for the Pavillon Lesdiguières at the Palais du Louvre.
