Large patinated terracotta statue representing Falconet's Nymph Psyche in the guise of a young girl sitting on a round base hiding the arc of Cupid. Falconet signature on the base. Late 19th century or 1900s.

This model of Etienne Maurice Falconet's Nymph was created in 1761 and exhibited at the Salon, as a counterpart to Menacing Love commissioned by Mme de Pompadour and exhibited at the Salon in 1757. This subject and its counterpart Menacing Love were very successful throughout the 18th and 19th centuries in different materials: biscuit, bronze, terracotta, marble... Our reissue is characteristic of the taste of the 18th century reinterpreted in the 19th century.

Of a large size, this statue is ideal to complete a large 18th century decoration; these decorative objects are typical of this period, to be placed on a chest of drawers, console or fireplace. It is a piece decorated from all angles, intended to be seen from all sides in the center of a table for example or back to a mirror.

It is in good general condition, an old restoration (crack in the neck).
