Repoussé copper representation of a celestial guardian (lokapala).
He is shown standing with his feet apart and wearing boots. He is dressed in several clothes and a long coat with wide sleeves and a snow leopard skin cape covering his shoulders. An elaborate belt featuring a kitimurkha head buckle, scarves twirling around the shoulders and down the body. The right hand holds a ritual cleaver (trigug), the left hand gripping a scabbard. The round face with thick eyebrows frame a flat nose overlooking a half-open mouth revealing fangs. The ears with distended lobes welcome two large circular pendants, the hair raised in a high bun elaborated behind a richly gold-plated crown.
Protectors of the faithful and of Buddhist doctrine, the Lokapalas appear in the Tibetan world around the 13th and 14th centuries.
