Large sculpture (50.5 cm) in Henriot Quimper polychrome earthenware, signed Nicot*, depicting an old woman with a distaff, from the first half of the 20th century.

* Louis-Henri Nicot (1878-1944)
was a French sculptor. He was the son of entrepreneur Henri Amédée Nicot and Blanche Augustine Ardilouze. He studied at the École régionale des beaux-arts in Rennes before becoming a professor at the École des arts appliqués Olivier-de-Serres in Paris. He wins a gold medal at the Salon des artistes français. He decorated the Palais de Justice in Reims, and created the Monument aux morts de l'armée du Rhin for the main cemetery in Mainz. He also created the Evangéline statue (Musée des Beaux-Arts, Rennes), La Martyre de Longfellow, Annaïg Mam Goz du Faouët, and the Monument à Théodore Botrel in Pont Aven. He created numerous Breton-themed ceramics, including Les Trois commères, Le Léonard au veau, La Marchande de poulets and Le Vœu du marin (circa 1930), published by Quimper faïencier Henriot. He also sculpted busts of Admiral Émile Guépratte and Charles Le Goffic, as well as numerous monuments to soldiers who died for France.
