    Large plaster bust of the Greek philosopher Homer, based on a Greek marble original created around 150 B.C., which was discovered in a wall of the Palazzo Caetani in Rome (Italy) and is now in the collections of the Musée du Louvre.

    The portrait is an imaginary representation of the Greek poet Homer, who is thought to have lived around 700 BC.
    Originating from a revolutionary seizure at the Capitoline Museum in Rome, 1798, (former Albani collection), it was sold by Pope Pius VII to King Louis XVIII in 1815 and has since remained permanently in French collections.
    Very decorative, fine quality, in good condition, late 19th century.
