Polychrome earthenware bust of the Nantes sculptor Henriette Porson (1874 – 1963), made by the emblematic HB factory, and representing a Bigoudène grandmother.
The Subject wears the traditional clothing and headdress of the Pont-L'Abbé region, identifiable by their Embroidery in Shimmering Colors. These relief decorations, inspired by the characteristic lace of the Bigouden country, are also an innovation of the Quimperoise Faïencerie: it launched the “Embroidery Decor” at the end of the First World War.
The marks of Time can be read on the Model's face, giving him an expression marked by austerity. The Artist was able to transcribe the Severity and Rigor which were the lot of women during this period, imposed by Decency and Religion.
A vestige of a bygone era, this Work is a touching testimony that will speak to Lovers of Breton Culture.
