Italian sculpture in onyx and alabaster representing a young woman taking off her shoes. The female figure is sitting on a low stool - Louis XVI style footrest in gilded wood and alabaster, finely chiseled. This small bench has four feet with fluted shafts and a central baluster-shaped base in bronze. The young woman is undressed but still wears a shoe on her left foot, she holds with her right arm a lace cloth hiding her bust and with the other, the end of the drape at her ankle. A slightly loose bun caps her delicate face looking up. A small shoe with heel rests under the bench. The whole scene is raised by a square onyx base. The drapery and the seat of the bench are finely decorated with embroidery chiseled in alabaster. This alabaster statue, made towards the end of the 19th century, reflects the taste of the time for polychrome sculpture and orientalism, which was still important at the turn of the century in Europe. This statuette is signed Adolfo Luchini on the left side of the base.
