Marble sculpture depicting Artemis, goddess of the hunt, wearing a short tunic and Roman sandals. She fastens her cloak over her right shoulder with a fibula.

Our signed de Pugi sculpture is a late 19th century replica of Artémis dite Diane de Gabies, a Roman marble sculpture from the time of Emperor Tiberius, discovered during excavations in 1792 in Gabies, Italy, and now in the Louvre Museum.

Guglielmo Pugi (Fiesole, 1850-1915) was an Italian sculptor who lived in Florence from 1870 to 1915. He designed the bust of Italian King Umberto I, which stands in the main square in his native Fiesole. Several of his sculptures are on display in the Historical Alabaster Museum in Volterra, Italy.
