Late 19th century Neoclassical bust of Madame Récamier crafted of white Carrara marble after the French sculptor Joseph Chinard (Lyon, 1756-1813). Married at the age of 16 to Jacques-Rose Récamier, a rich banker, Juliette Récamier (1777-1849) was a socialite, whose fashionable literary salon drew Parisians from the leading literary and political circles of the French Consulate to the end of the July Monarchy. Accomplished, shy and modest by nature, Juliette was also very beautiful. Some of the most accomplished portraitists of the era sculpted, drew, and painted her image.
