Rare bas-relief sculpture in white marble, representing a fly swatter called Chauri holding a water pot in his left hand and the fly swatter in his right hand, in typical architecture of the Solanki Dynasty (fine columns with rings surmounted by a capital in the shape of a skylight), from Rajasthan, West India, from the 12th-13th centuries.
This sculpture is in good general condition and is of exceptional quality and rarity. It is a stele or the lower part of a column or door jamb. The central figure is flanked by a small figure on the right side as well as probably an animal above.
Note: wear and patina of time on the marble, look carefully at the photos.
Similar steles of the same origin have already been sold in major auction houses (Sothebys, Christies, Bonhams).
