Charming objects of the 19th century decorative arts, these putti are here musicians dancing to the sound of the music they play. Probably inspired by the Putti games, a fashionable theme since the 17th century in Italy, our putti in patinated and gilded bronze evoke in the 19th century the archaeological discoveries of Pompeii and Herculaneum. These small characters that are awkwardly called "cherubs" but more commonly called "loves" or "cupids" are more generally referred to as putto (in the singular form). Their physiognomy is that of a small chubby child, always male, with or without a pair of wings.
