Sculpture stamped by the Parisian foundry Susse frères and dated 1842, probably produced during the artist's lifetime.

James PRADIER, pseudonym of Jean-Jacques PRADIER, born in Geneva on May 23, 1790 and died in Bougival (Yvelines) on June 4, 1852, was a Franco-Swiss sculptor and painter.
Appreciated during his lifetime, James PRADIER was a major sculptor of the Louis-Philippe period in the 19th century, winning the Prix de Rome in 1813. He received numerous government commissions, including the Victoires surrounding the tomb of Napoléon 1er at Les Invalides, Place de la Concorde, statues in Lille and Strasbourg, and the Esplanade fountain in Nimes.... He was considered one of the greatest sculptors of his time, until his death under the Second Empire. His works have enjoyed great posterity.
