Nice and large bronze print with brown patina on a rotating base, signed Adrien Gaudez (1845-1902).
Adrien-Etienne Gaudez was born in Lyon on February 9, 1845. He was 17 years old when he moved to Paris after his admission to the École des Beaux-Arts in 1862. He entered the studio of François Jouffroy, Grand Prix de Rome, a renowned academic sculptor and statuary. Talented, with an overflowing imagination and a tireless worker, Adrien-Etienne Gaudez exhibited works that were very successful because of their classicism and received many commissions.
In an academic style full of grace, he sculpts with precision and chisels with finesse. He died early in 1902.
"The Elegant Woman and her Dog" is a remarkable work for its quality of execution and the softness that emanates from it. A young woman with a slender and elegant figure, delicately bends her head, wearing a large hat with a very large feather. Her graceful face sketches a discreet smile while her eyes look down. A voluminous bow covers her throat and her dress emphasizes her forms.
She holds a bouquet of flowers in her right hand, which she holds close to her. She is happy.
To her left, her faithful dog looks at her with affection as she caresses him with her gloved hand.
This realization of Adrien Gaudez is remarkable by its great dimension, its quality of execution, the grace and the harmony which emanates from it.
